Preparing for Sunday173 This Week @ TCC: 1 Peter 1:13 19Thanks for checking out the blog this week! Last week, Pastor Sean preached through Luke 5:27-32 on the importance of meals to Jesus from selected passages in Luke. If you missed this sermon you can listen to it here or watch it below:

This Sunday marks the beginning of Advent, when we celebrate Jesus’ first coming and long for his coming again.  This week we will sing and read passages that celebrate Jesus as the coming Messiah and King.  Pastor Sean will be preaching from 1 Peter 1:13-19.  Below is a summary from Pastor Sean about where we are heading this week:

This week is a follow up in connection with the FREED series from 1 Peter 1:13-19.  We have walked the path of remembering we are all in bondage to multiple layers of sin.  We have identified idols that grip our hearts and how we need the power of the cross to awaken us to our guilt and His love for us.  We have been called to repent and rejoice in Christ when we are convicted of sin, and we have been reminded that in our freedom from sin’s enslavement we are thankfully bound to another Master, our King Jesus.  And this freedom is not a freedom to step on grace, but a freedom to act like Jesus in sacrificial love.  It is at this crossroads that I feel we need to massage more of the message of freedom into our everyday lives.  The emphasis of Sunday is that fighting against sin and for faith is not just a response to past sin but it is the daily preemptive work for personal holiness.  It is the moment by moment discipline of a personal relationship with Jesus. It is the daily cultivation of life that is freed to holiness- likeness to God.  I pray that this message only serves to further highlight God’s grace in our lives that saves, sustains, forgives and even promises us that He will equip us for the daily battle of walking with Jesus in love.  May God make us a people who fight together for the freedom and joy of a holy life that reflects our Father, our Master, our Lord.

We are we going from here:  In the next couple weeks we will be celebrating missions week at TCC. Starting Dec 4 and go through Dec 11 we will be preaching about, testifying to, praying for and giving to missions. It all culminates with the Hope for All Nations offering on Dec 11.  We then will spend a couple weeks on Advent: Celebrating Christ’s Coming at Christmas. Then at the turn of the year, in 2012, we will be going through the book of GENESIS. Over these next several months and beyond, I look forward to growing with you in love with God, his Word, one another and the many people in need of Jesus.  May God cause us to Treasure Christ, Pursue Community and Love the World.

Here are the songs that we will sing this week as we seek to praise Jesus, the great light of the world, coming Messiah, and forever King!
