This Sunday: 1 Corinthians 12-14
Thanks for checking out the blog this week! Last week Pastor Sean preached from Acts 14:1-7; 19-23. He outlined the reasons why and how we, as believers, must actively plant the gospel wherever we go. If you missed this sermon, you can listen to it here or watch it on the tcc vimeo channel.
This week we will continue on in our 1 Corinthinans series. Pastor Sean will be preaching from 1 Corinthians 12:4-11. 27-31 & 13:1-3, 14:1. Here is a summary from Pastor Sean for your reflection as we prepare to hear God’s Word preached.
God still works supernaturally. The fact that I this morning was able to pick up the Bible, pray to the Creator of the universe, have a relationship with him and find him stimulating my mind, calming my fears, and comforting my heart is no less than miraculous. That I a sinner would desire Jesus at all, that he would not just do this in me but form a community of people that he has supernaturally changed and then has given gifts to that community of people, we know them as the church, in order that the community can be built up in their faith like a strong building and stirred up to sacrificial love like Christ. This Sunday as we continue in 1 Corinthians 12-14, we continue to proclaim that God works supernaturally by His Spirit giving gifts, even gifts that seem more supernatural than others to show off his power, to build faith in His people and to stir one another up to bold acts of love. Sadly these very gifts which were meant to display the continued powerful and intimate working of the Spirit were twisted to be grounds of pride and division. This week we discuss what specifically some of the more controversial or less understood gifts are, such as prophecy, tongues, and healings, and whether the Spirit is still at work in these ways through the church today. We must remember all Spirit-given gifts are meant not to divide, but to build up in faith and to push us in love towards mission. May we be stirred up to treasure Christ, pursue one another in community, and love the world both locally and globally with the gifts God has given us.
